10 Benefits of A Clean House

What inspires everyone to keep their houses clean? For some, the reason could be as simple as having an environment to relax. Whatever your reasons, you can’t escape the benefits of a clean house.

You can overlook the general cleanliness of the house occasionally, but you have to be sure not to turn it into a habit. A dirty house poses a threat to your health and that of your loved ones. Dirty bathrooms are good breeding grounds for rodents and bugs.

Causes of a Dirty House
Even outliers may sometimes overlook general cleanliness of one or two areas in the home, however, be sure not to make it a habit. Because when you do, you tend to be telling your family that you careless about their health. You risk serving them contaminated food, making frequent visits to the hospital and chasing your friends away; none of your friends will accept to step foot into a dirty house.

A messy environment may not be your choice. Like many, you may be time barred or your family may not be doing enough to ensure that the house remains clean.

Heck, you may not even be strong enough to clean your house. We understand you and that is why would are always glad to offer you our professional cleaning services so that you don’t miss out on the benefits of a clean one. These benefits include:

Benefits of a Clean House
The benefits are so simple, you’d be surprised.

It’s Healthier
Rodents and bugs multiply in messy environments. Let’s not get started with dust mites, pollens and other creepy substances that may trigger asthma and hay-fever, pass around cold, and spread dangerous bacteria.
Your house doesn’t have to be sterile, but every effort of controlling pests (mice, rats, ants, cockroaches, etc.), allergens (animal hair, dust, etc.) and toxic stuff (chemicals collected in carpets, etc.) counts.

Ease of Movement
Where do you step with clutter all around the house? A messy house does not only hinder movement, but it may also be risky especially for young children and elders.

Peace of Mind
Your house might be the only place you feel at ease and relaxed. However, when you allow the chaos from outside on the inside then you risk being not only delusional but chaotic too.

A clean house guarantees peace and tranquility from the outside world.

It Encourages Minimalism
This is not to say that tidy people are minimalists, but once you get used to only having items that add value to your home, you’ll begin to purge more often. Giving away what you no longer need will become second to nature. You can hold a yard sale so as to make some extra money for what you don’t use anymore.

Clean House, Happy You
The pressure from the outside world can have a heavy impact on your happiness. However, when you get back to your clean house, you let everything go and enjoy even just for awhile.

Better and Lasting Friendships
I do not mean to say that I clean house will guarantee you lasting friendships, but I do know that it has the capability of improving existing ones and fostering new ones. Your friends will readily agree to come over to an organized and clean house. If yours is too cluttered, don’t be surprised if they walk out on you one after the other.

It Encourages You to Give to Charity
When you purge often, you’ll realize that not everything can go into a yard sale. You’ll constantly feel the need to be charitable, at least this is what I felt when I first started purging.

You give once, you see the beautiful smile on people’s faces and you know you did well.
Once in awhile, you can also decide to give your stuff to charity organizations who then sell this stuff to get money to support the needy in the community.

It Saves You Money
When you know where everything you own is and can most definitely locate them without the house upside down; you won’t give in to the pressure of buying things you already own.

It Boosts Productivity
Studies show that people who live and work in clean environments are more focused and productive at work; they yield better results and increased earnings.

Boosts a Sense of Accomplishment

How do you feel when you take a step back to look at how clean is after some cleaning? Great!

Why is Office Cleanliness Important?

The average Australian works more than 30 hours per week (according to OECD statistics), so office cleanliness is about more than adhering to the government’s health and safety regulations. Technology and industrialisation may improve productivity, but they frequently introduce germs, diseases, and even fatalities into the workplace. Most clients who follow our cleaning advice see reduced staff absence from accidents and illnesses caused by germs and dirt in the workplace. Here’s how you can quickly improve your office environment.

1. Dry and clean slip proof floors

Slips and falls are one of the most common causes of injury, from bruises to fractures. To prevent accidents, watch out for spillage and clean floors immediately. For example, if someone spills food in the lunch area, mop it up before somebody slips on it. And don’t stop there: wet floors are dangerous even if they’re clean, so use an absorbent material to dry the area as much as possible. If you can’t get it completely dry, place a “wet surface” warning sign next to the spillage.

2. Get organised

A messy environment causes multiple problems, from tripping hazards to blocked fire exits. While most safety issues are the company’s responsibility, everyone should play their part in reporting potential problems such as loose equipment wiring, piles of paperwork blocking walkways, fire exits without signs, top-heavy filing cabinets that could fall on someone, old furniture that may not be safe to use and so on.

Scientific studies prove that a messy environment hampers productivity, while an organised, tidy workplace improves morale. Proper organisation makes everything quicker and easier and, as any feng shui expert will tell you, encourages positive energy in the workplace. If you work in a client-facing business, a tidy office gives a far better impression to visiting customers, too. No one will believe you’re professionals if you leave stacks of papers teetering on the edge of every desk!

3. Use disinfectant

The workplace is a hotbed of shared bacteria. Everyone brings germs in from home, from their journey to work and from everywhere else they’ve been. Keeping all surfaces disinfected and tidy is one of the best ways to keep those germs to a minimum and reduce staff sickness. Even if you have to hire a crew to perform this task, it will be well worth it.

For example, back in the 1990s one of the world’s biggest credit card payment processing companies decided to cut costs by reducing their cleaning bill. They got rid of their telephone sanitisers. A week later, roughly twenty percent of their staff called in sick with ear infections!

Like so many office workers, you probably didn’t realise just how important office cleanliness is. Now you know what to watch for, you can share this information with your colleagues and create a better, more positive work environment for everyone.

Contact us today if you need a hand to help improve your productivity and make your workplace safer by keeping your office in tip-top shape!

What’s Your Least Favourite Area to Clean?

We scouted the streets of Melbourne to find the answer to this question, and the feedback was just as we expected. Everyone we interviewed agreed that their least favourite area to clean is… the toilet.

The toilet is the most visited room in your home. It can also be the most unwelcoming, especially if the previous visitor didn’t flush. And if ignored, it quickly becomes a breeding ground for bacteria and viruses.

As our survey confirmed, no one likes keeping the loo clean, so we thought we would share our pro tips that bring sparkle to our clients’ toilets. Incorporate them into your cleaning routine!

Create Cleaning Space

It’s a messy job and the chance of getting the toilet paper wet or dropping something in the bowl is too high. Make sure you remove everything you can from around the toilet before you start.

Deep Clean

Deep cleaning is what turns your toilet from the one on the left to the one on the right. It makes your lavatory look clean and healthy, so your family and guests feel more comfortable.

Pour a cup of baking soda in the bowl. Let it sit for a few minutes, then scrub and flush. If you see any spots after this, try using a wet pumice stone. Pumice is abrasive enough to remove stains caused by mineral deposits but gentle enough not to damage surfaces.

In the case of grime build-up, we like to use a light-duty electric pressure washer. It blasts hard-to-reach areas like the spots where the hinges meet the seat, and you don’t have to get too close!

We recommend deep cleaning at least every six months to avoid potential health hazards. Deep clean more frequently if you have a big family or many visitors.

The Brush, the Brush, the Brush

It is so easy to overlook the brush. Most families we work with confess that they don’t see the need to clean the toilet brush frequently. We can’t over-emphasise how important it is to tackle the brush after every use. And pay even more attention to it when deep cleaning.

Here’s how to do it right: first, place the brush over the bowl. Pour your choice of bleach over the bristles, wait for a few minutes, and then rinse with clean water. Fill the brush holder with warm, diluted bleach and rinse into the toilet.

Clean the Outside of the Toilet

Always remember to clean the outside of the toilet as bacteria can hide there, too. Start at the top to avoid dripping on clean surfaces. Spray the tank, handle, and bowl edges with a cleaner and wipe down. Then do the same on the outside of the toilet lid. Finally, wipe down the entire bowl. Start with the sides and front before going to the bottom edges where it meets the floor. Remember not to neglect the toilet seat – it’s the part that comes into contact with people!

When you are satisfied with your work, check for and wipe any drips or spills. Put your tools away, throw away anything you no longer need and put back the items you moved before you started cleaning. Sit back and enjoy a job well done.

Of course, if all this is too unpleasant, you can give GSR Cleaning Services a shout. We’re a small cleaning company based in the heart of Melbourne, offering both commercial and domestic cleaning specialists. We have a team of well-trained cleaners ready to tackle even the most unpleasant home hygiene duties!

Contact us today to find out how we can prevent bacteria and viruses from invading your toilet and make it one of your favourite areas to clean.

Top Tips for Organizing your Bathrooms and Closets

Closets and bathrooms are the two most dreaded areas to clean. A dirty bathroom is a breeding ground for bacteria and a neglected closet can easily become overrun and cluttered. Here are our favorite tips for organizing your bathrooms and closets; we have used them to help keep our clients living spaces in tip-top shape!

Fresh Bathroom

Hang a basket on the towel rail

Put your bath/shower supplies into a plastic basket with holes (like the ones for clothes pegs) and hang it on the towel rail. Much better than cluttering the edge of the bath!

Shower squeegee

Run a squeegee down the sides of the shower (or the curtain) after every use.

Deep-clean the toilet

Pour enough bicarb or germ-fighting detergent into the bowl to clean an elephant. Let it soak for a while before scrubbing. Don’t forget to clean the toilet brush afterwards!

Wipe everything down

Water marks form when condensation dries out. Wipe the floor, walls, and mirrors with an absorbent cloth to soak up the moisture after every bath or shower.

Air regularly

Moisture and humidity build up quickly, so install a vent or open the bathroom window regularly. Remember to wipe everything down first!

De-cluttered Closet

Use trouser hangers for your boots

Hangers with sliding clips designed for dacks are great for footwear. Hang the ones you’re not using and switch over each season. Avoid hanging sandals and heavy boots together, as that can damage more delicate items.

Crown moulding shoe hangers

Crown moulds are one of the most inexpensive shoe-hanging hacks. They’re designed to go on the wall and are perfect for hooking your heels over so your shoes aren’t lying around for you to step on.

Divider shelves:

Divider shelves are ideal for organizing towels, purses, linens, sweaters and even books.
Store bed sheets in matching pillow cases: a simple trick is to tuck the sheet set inside one of its matching pillow cases, and then stack according to size or by the room you use it in.

Create storage containers from mason jars

Make use of all those mason jars you’ve been hoarding. They’re perfect for storing valuable small items in your closet, bathroom, and any other room.

We’re sure these tips will help keep your closet and bathroom clean and organized. You’ll no doubt come up with new ideas of your own. We’d love to hear them!

The How and Why of Hiring Commercial Cleaning Services

Success in business is as much looking good as being good. Hiring commercial cleaning services can help you with both. For instance, did you know that regular office cleaning has a direct correlation to efficiency? Keeping everyone healthy and focused encourages smooth workflow, but a healthy workplace is rarer than you might think. Many companies overlook the basics because they don’t realize how easy it is for pathogens to build up.

While hiring commercial cleaning services can help you reduce staff absences due to illness, choosing the right provider is one of the hardest tasks for facility managers in any organization. There are so many professional cleaners, each claiming to be better than the rest that it’s almost impossible to find out who is honestly capable of doing what they promise. Here are some pointers to help you choose the best option.

Aim for a People Person

People do business with people and use machines to make work easier. Hi-tech, state-of-the-art equipment is important for any cleaning company, but pay close attention to what they say about the people who get the job done.
How does the company hire their cleaners? Find out if they train, motivate, and compensate well. If a cleaning company dwells on the state-of-the-art machinery they’ll be using, like most do, what interests them is the pay and not the work.

Avoid cleaning companies that only talk about how good they are and put down the competition. Look for the provider who is confident in their ability to deliver what you want: quality systems, service delivery, human resources, health and safety, environmental stewardship and management commitment.

Ask the Right Questions, Get the Right Professionals

Compare notes with facility managers from other businesses to get quality referrals. Research online for reviews on hiring commercial cleaning services. However, remember that opinions are just opinions, so be sure to ask the right questions when you think you’ve found the right professional. For example:

• Do you conduct background checks on your cleaning team?
• How do you ensure your cleaners are legal hires?
• What do you do to find and keep the best-qualified cleaning team?
• Do you subcontract any part of your business?
• Who supervises the cleaners in my facility?
• Who do I call when there’s an issue?
• How many other facilities and teams does that person handle?
• Do you have a system to handle complaints?
• What is included in your quote?
• How important is hygiene to your business and your cleaners?

Accurate answers to these questions will help you tick off some of the things on your checklist before deciding.

Give a Tour and Stay Away

Once you pick the right cleaning company, take them on a tour of the premises and show them any trouble spots.
Be sure to state the time you expect the cleaning service to do their work. You can request they clean early in the morning before your work day starts or late in the evening when the business is closed. Whatever time you set should fit around your workflow.

Once you’ve outlined your expectations and any necessary procedures, such as checking in with security, leave them to do their job. Don’t interrupt or monitor the cleaners as they work.

Inspect the Job

After their first visit and at regular intervals during their contract, walk around the premises to inspect the work the cleaning company does. Satisfy yourself that the job is done as requested. Assuming it is, remember to appreciate the cleaners for the work they do. Not only will that boost their egos, but it’ll also motivate them to give you better service.

GSR has the right people to bring the sparkle you need on your premises. Contact us today to find out if we are the best fit for your business.

How Spring Cleaning Can Help You Survive Hay-Fever

Spring is beautiful, but it’s also a key time of the year for seasonal allergies. As plants release pollen, millions of Australians with hay fever start to sniffle and sneeze. This may seem normal, but the National Asthma Council Australia warns a runny nose, watery eyes, sneezing and breathing difficulties in spring can be far more serious. While there may be no real cure for springtime allergies, medication and household habits like spring cleaning can help.

Causes

The number one spring allergy trigger is pollen. Your immune system sees pollen as a danger, so releases antibodies to attack the allergens. This leads to histamines entering your blood, triggering your runny nose, watery eyes and other symptoms.

Diagnosis

A visit to your regular doctor may help. They will probably tell you to take antihistamines. If that doesn’t help, you may need to go to an allergist for tests to discover what you’re allergic to.

Survival Tips for Sufferers

Apart from taking antihistamines, avoiding pollen as much as possible is the best solution:

• Stay indoors when the pollen count is very high. The counts usually peak in the mornings.

• Keep your doors and windows closed during the spring months to keep allergens out. An air purifier may also help.

• Change your clothes and wash your hair after going outside, because the allergen can collect there.

• Vacuum twice a week. Wear a mask, because vacuuming can kick up pollen (and mould and dust) trapped in your carpet.

• Clean the air filters in your home regularly. Clean bookshelves, vents, and other places where pollen can collect.

Kristine Whorlow, CEO of the National Asthma Council Australia, says that spring cleaning can also help reduce exposure to allergen triggers.

However, a proper spring clean can be strenuous and difficult, so getting expert help is a great idea. Most spring cleaning experts provide a complete sterilized cleaning service that removes collected dirt, germs and dust on every surface of your living space. They deliver a fresh, clean, beautiful home much quicker than you could do it yourself.

When you’re looking to hire, don’t just check that the company uses state-of-the-art machinery to clean your house: ensure that the procedures and products they use are time-tested, verified and harmless.

If you suffer from hay fever, you will get extra benefit from regular cleans – choose a weekly, fortnightly or monthly spring cleaning service to keep pollen from settling and building up, triggering your allergies. When you hire a cleaning team, tell them you get hay fever and ensure they concentrate on leaving your carpet, windows and other surfaces free of dust and pollen.

At GSR Cleaning Services, we know how allergies and asthma can ruin one of the most pleasant times of the year. That’s why we pay attention to the procedures and products we use for spring cleaning – we’ll minimize your sniffling and sneezing with our expert service.

If your efforts with certain seeds don’t work out, try others and go from there.
