Ask someone to name their least favourite household chore and you’re very likely to hear…………….

If we asked around (and we have), the least favourite household chores seems to be “cleaning the toilet”. How tough this job is generally relates to the number of people

To be honest, that’s not one of the worst, that’s just one of the ones that had handy right now.

As you can see, we don’t just do whatever one else does, we go the extra mile in making sure that the whole toilet is cleaned properly. Every six months we recommend removing the toilet seat cover and cleaning under it. This helps to remove stains that are visible but hard to reach. It is also important so that the toilet be properly disinfected so that you can protect the health of your staff, your family, your customers and yourself.

It’s not hard to do, just unscrew the bolts on the toilet seat and remove it. If it something more comfortable doing think it is a call and we would be more than happy to do that for you.

GSR Cleaning Services provides cleaning services throughout the entire Melbourne metropolitan area. If you would rather let somebody else take care of the cleaning for you, givers a call we would love to help.

Tips for Carpet Cleaning

Tips for Carpet Cleaning

Ever wondered health professionals do it?

We have fantastic track record when it comes to the cleaning, maintenance and cleaning up of carpet so check out some of our tips on how the pros do it.

How to ensure that you get lasting value and a long life from your carpets

Vacuum the carpet regularly with a good quality vacuum cleaner that has a rotating brush and a good filter. This will help reduce the buildup of oil as well as removing a lot of dust and gunk.

  • Examine the carpet before using any cleaner. Some carpet are quite sensitive to certain asset types of cleaners so it is important to check if your carpet is sensitive, otherwise the wrong cleaner could act as a bleach making the staying you are trying to remove the least of your problems.
  • Don’t you strong spotting agents in less necessary, and always neutralise the pH balance of a high alkaline cleaner after its use.
  • If you need to use a spotting agent, start with the mildest and slowly work towards the harsher cleaners.
  • Don’t brush the spot to clean it, the correct method is to rub it towards the middle and then compress using a cloth to soak up.
  • Be careful with detergents. Don’t increase the quantity beyond what is recommended because it won’t boost the efficiency of the cleaner. What actually happens is it will leave a residue which will be hard to remove with a vacuum cleaner. It’s this residue that will end up being sticky, and so it will attract more dust and lead to dirtier carpets faster than ever before.
  • Don’t use too much water. Using too much water can cause all sorts of problems including carpet shrinkage, warping, adhesion problems and colour changes.
  • Make sure the carpet is a dry within 12 hours of cleaning. Carpet that is slow to dry builds up mould and mildew, they smell and the smell tends to hang around a long time. So use a good ventilation, central heating or air conditioning to help dry carpets fast.
  • For some reason, people seem to spill a lot of chocolate milk on carpet. We have found the best product to remove this is called “simple green” (it’s non-toxic and we think it works great).

Taking care of your carpets will help make sure that the carpet last for a lot longer. Cleaning your carpet is something that should happen regularly, especially vacuuming. So how often you need to clean the carpet will depend on how much where it sees, the season and the weather and more.

Cleaning your BBQ grill

For a lot of people, the barbecue is something that gets a lot of use. So when you purchase your barbecue grill think of it as an investment, it is likely to become something that is a large part of your summer meals for years and years to come.

But like all things, proper maintenance is going to be needed to take care of it and to make sure that at last you for as long as it short.

The worst thing you can do is leave the grill messy between uses. The longer the grill six dirty, the harder it is to clean and the shorter lifespan of the grill. A dirty grill tends to rust a lot easier than a clean one so this is certainly the number one thing to take care of. Certain tasks are specific to the different types of barbecue that you may have (such as gas, electric, charcoal etc), but in general most maintenance is pretty much the same.

Step 1 – The bits that you will need

The basic items that you need to clean your grill are:

  1. Mild dish soap
  2. Cooking oil spray
  3. Dry baking soda
  4. Aluminium foil
  5. A wire grill brush
  6. Steel wool pads (the pre-soap ones are best)
  7. A sponge or cleaning cloth new paragraph

Step 2 – brush off your grill

Use the wire brush the brush off all of the grill services. This should remove any larger pieces and make it much easier.

Step 3 – spray some cooking oil

Once the grill has called and you have brushed, the next thing to do is to spray it with a layer of cooking oil. This layer of oil will help prevent rust. Don’t do this when it’s hot, spraying the wheel of hot surface could potentially cause it to ignite.

Step 4 – baking soda and aluminium foil

Baking soda makes a great cleaning agent. It’s fantastic for polishing and so once you have removed and protected the grill as in the previous steps, baking soda can help restore some of its original shine. aluminium foil could be used in a similar way (gently though) to polish other barbecue services.

Step 5 – clean the racks

When you’re cooking, food sits on these racks so is important to keep them clean. To clean the racks first use the wire brush to remove as much buildup as possible. After this wash the racks using dish soap or if they are really dirty you may want to use the steel wool. Don’t forget, you can either of these things so give them a good rinse to remove the soap residue.

How to reduce toxins from cleaners in the household

How to reduce toxins from cleaners in the household.

Every day were exposed to a wide variety of toxins in our regular lives. Everything has a varying level of toxicity to it and that level of toxicity can be determined in a number of ways.

So if you’re interested in keeping a home clean, but also want to keep it safe for your family is well worth learning just a little bit about how to reduce these toxins.

So what can you do to reduce your exposure?

There’s a lot that you can do at all starts with a reading labels carefully. A lot of products these days do safe they are non-toxic, it’s best to assume that if it doesn’t say that it’s non-toxic then there is a level of toxicity that is worth avoiding.

Avoid using indoor pesticides, there may be some cases we have no choice but in general this is something that you should avoid because quite clearly indoor pesticides are toxic.

You can use natural alternatives. Borax is a great cleaner and can be used when mixed with a bit of lemon juice to take stains out of toilet bowls. White vinegar is also great for disinfecting bathrooms and kitchens.  Bon Ami is a Borax based Power cleaner that’s been sold in supermarkets for over 50 years and is a safe and effective way to clean pots, pans, sinks, ovens and more.

By making these minor changes you can significantly reduce the total amount of toxin in your house that your family is exposed to.

Using cleaners in this way can also help the environment because they are generally made by companies that work harder to ensure that their products are environmentally friendly.

So why do people not do this already?

Unfortunately the truth is, a lot of people simply don’t check the labels. It’s not really a case of a problem with the quality of the products, it is most commonly simply that people don’t look. When you’re reading the ingredients make sure that you there isn’t any irritating chemicals such as chlorine, ammonia or artificial fragrances and dies. Simply saying natural somewhere on the box doesn’t cover it, you have to read the ingredients to be sure.

Kitchen Cabinets Cleaning Tips

Kitchen cabinets are the hotspot for germs, dirt and insects. There should absolutely be no compromise when it comes to maintaining a cabinet cleaning schedule. If you ever notice, in just a week’s time, your sparkling cabinet turns dull and greasy looking with all the fumes, the grease, food spills and not to mention, dirty hand marks the kids leave behind. So, if you want to protect your cabinets from being the dirtiest commodity in the kitchen, here are a few cleaning suggestions from GSR Cleaning.
Cleaning Kitchen

Choosing Cleaning Products

Regular cleaning can help reduce the build up on cabinets and doesn’t take much time to get done, as compared to doing it after months. When cleaning kitchen cabinets, you got to be careful of the type of material your cabinet is made of and the recommended cleaning chemicals for them. Painted surfaces, vinyl or metal can simply be cleaned with detergent and warm water. Be sure to rinse well with plain water and dry with a lint free cloth.

All purpose cleaners can generally be used on these surfaces. Read the label carefully before using any product on your cabinetry. Information is included for consumers regarding surfaces where a cleaner is safe and those it can damage. To be sure, always test the cleaner on an inconspicuous area before using on the entire cabinet. Rinse and dry to remove any residue.

If you’re sensitive to the strong chemicals from cleaning products and worry about your environment, then basic, house hold remedies can also be used to manage kitchen cabinet cleaning. One of the most common house-hold remedy is the use of white vinegar or lemon juice mixed with warm water for cleaning stubborn grease. Baking soda or club soda can be used to remove staining. Rinse with water and dry with a lint free cloth after cleaning.

Cleaning Wood Kitchen Cabinets

Spray cleaners that are made for wood furniture can be used on cabinets. Check to be sure the product you purchase is safe for your finish. Follow the directions carefully when using any cleaning product. It’s always a good idea to test a spot before using the cleaner, even if the can states that it’s good for your finish.

Some wood cleaners are flammable and are clearly mentioned in the label. When using these products, keep away from heat sources. Don’t smoke cigarettes and make sure the oven does not have any leaks and is not accidentally switched on. Any carelessness could ignite a spark causing a fire in the kitchen.

Cleaning wood cabinets can sometimes dull the finish. If this happens, you can restore the shine with furniture polish. Furniture wax can also be used to fix a dull finish. Some of these products will require buffing. It’s a good idea to polish wood cabinets regularly to preserve the wood and keep the shine.

Cleaning Hardware on Kitchen Cabinets

The hardware on your cabinets can get the same build up of grease and grime from foods. Remove the hardware before cleaning the cabinets. Clean the cabinets and then clean the hardware. When both have been cleaned, replace the handles on the cabinets and drawers. This will give your whole kitchen a lift.

The cleaner you should use for your hardware depends on the material. Cleaners and polishes are commercially available for every type of metal. Be sure the one you choose is suitable for your hardware. Using the wrong cleaner could damage the handles and cost you money in replacing them.
